Report: Draft prospect says Eagles asked him if his mother is awake
(SP) – NFL draft prospect Derrius Gase said today that he was asked during his interview at the NFL Combine if he thought his mother was « awake. »
« I was surprised by the question, » the former LSU running back said. “I’m not sure how it affects my game on the court if my mother knows about the systemic racism, the ever-increasing income inequality in this nation, and how the justice and prison system is being destroyed for people of color. I thought they were just going to ask me if, you know, I want to win something like that. »
Pressed by reporters about who asked him about his mother’s vigil, Guice finally admitted it was the Philadelphia Eagles.
« They told me they’re looking to find players who will fit their system, which they’ve emphasized is to do their best on the field in the ultimately meaningless game of football, and that’s how they open up avenues to really make a meaningful impact. . in the world fighting for social justice off the field,” Guice said. « That’s the system I was used to at LSU, except we just did the football part. »
Guice said the Eagles also asked him how one could truly enjoy football in 2018 knowing the impact the game has on the bodies of those who play.
« They’re wide awake, » he said.
